Orlando Ballet Takes a Twirl at Vampire Lore
The Halloween Season is in the air, and pumpkin spice latte’s are everywhere. Orlando Ballet will fill your thirst for fright, so make sure you join us on opening night!
The Orlando Ballet is in the Halloween spirit this month. This week they will open their 2011-2012 season with Vampire Ballet.
BRINK was able to get a sneak peak of what the professional ballet company has in store for the audience. We left the ballet’s home on N. Orange Ave. wanting more!
Artistic Director, Robert Hill came up with a a spooky and sexy story that has something in it for everyone. At one moment the stage is filled with action and thrills while an army of Zombies battle Ghouls and Vampires. Then we find the eloquence we expect and love from Ballet is enticed through the innocent duet of two lovers dancing to Adele’s “Love Song” cover. There are even a few moments of comedy too, so that audience members can remember not to take things that go bump in the night too seriously.
“We are excited to be a part of the vampire obsession which has glamoured audiences from the big screen to the stage,” said Robert Hill. “We look forward to entertaining our audience with a humorous, convoluted tale of vampires, humans and other strange monsters of the nighttime world.”
Of course it isn’t Halloween without Johann Sebastian Bach’s organ, and when mixed with a collage of music from the Midnight Syndicate, it forms a beautiful score for Hill’s artistic vision. Dark Knight fans may even recognize a few bars from our favorite movie of 2008, as well!
Hill not only mixes classical and modern favorites when it comes to the score of Vampire Ballet. He also admits to mixing the vampire theme with a few dance pieces from previous works like La Bayadere and Giselle.
Missing Vampire Ballet might be the scariest thing to happen to you this haunted season. Performances will be held at The Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre on Oct. 21st, 22nd, and 23rd. Visit the Orlando Ballet’s Website for more details.
Stephanie Meyer, don’t think we love you any less, but we think Robert Hill weaves vampires lore the best.
